NSTS2025 high-lights
The 2025 edition of the Nordic SecTech Summit (NSTS) was held in Riga on October 16. Bringing together leading experts, SPAC Alliance members, and a vibrant Latvian security ecosystem, the event fostered meaningful connections with one of Europe’s key frontline nations.
SPAC Alliance members in Latvia
As usual at major trade shows and security events across Europe, several SPAC Alliance members took part as partners. It was particularly interesting to explore the specific challenges and threats of the Baltic region alongside Mobotix, STid, and SimonsVoss.
But NSTS is much more than a product / solution showcase. People came to share their knowledge, their experience, and their personal approaches to security.
10 conferences to provide a 360° view on security
When preparing our conference with our hosts, Maris Baltbergs and Sanita Meijere, it was clear that we needed to offer a broader perspective on security, just as the other speakers also elevated the discussion. We chose to put people and genuine security at the center of our approach, even though much of the current focus revolves around NIS2, the Cyber Resilience Act, and compliance strategies.
Here are the key takeaways of our conferences.
SPAC Alliance: Compliance as a path, not a destination (Tibaud Estienne).
After an introduction on hybrid attacks and recent regulatory updates, we shifted the focus to what truly matters: people. Viewing compliance only as a step toward protecting ourselves allows us to consider every dimension of security.
- Compliance releases you from liability
- Balance compliance with your real security needs
- True security is sustainable, scalable, and intuitive
STid : Future-Proofing a Nation: The Role of Open Architecture in Critical Infrastructure (Klaus Björkman).
Klaus presented how STid provided solutions to the Icelandic Parliament in multiple ways — from readers designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, including near-arctic temperatures and high salinity levels, to user-friendly, centrally managed access control systems featuring virtual cards and single-point administration.
This was a great example of how security is not just about adding devices and solutions together, but about addressing multiple challenges at once — effectively and sustainably.
SimonsVoss : The Hidden Weak Link in Critical Infrastructure – and How We Solved It (Jens Holmberg).
Jens focused on the “why” and “what” of Critical Infrastructures, offering a broad perspective that covered everything from regulations (Critical Entites Resilience Directive) to specific geographical constraints.
When it comes to power management or other critical sectors, we’re talking about the potential collapse of entire societies. Protecting such assets can mean securing areas as vast as 15,000 km², with some facilities lacking electricity or network connections – reachable only by helicopter – yet still requiring reliable access control.
How to find the balance between security, compliance flexibility and ROI? Just watch this video:
Mobotix : Why Security is no longer enough (Anders Kjellberg).
Anders Kjellberg’s presentation reframes the role of technology in protection: it’s no longer just about security, but about value protection (of assets, people, and the environment).
He traces how Mobotix evolved from traditional security hardware into intelligent, AI-driven thermal imaging and sensor fusion systems that detect, prevent, and act (from early fire detection in recycling plants to battery safety in factories, solar park monitoring, and even infant health tracking in hospitals).
Once again, it illustrates why we must go beyond compliance and security requirements!
Our key takeaways from NSTS 2025
> SPAC Alliance’s vision of security federates
After several trade shows across Europe (Sectech Norway, APS in Paris, Sectech Sweden), and as the NIS 2 and CER directives become a reality, interest in our global vision of security continues to grow. From end users who find clear insights into regulations and reliable products and services, to manufacturers united by a shared technological intent — creating more sustainable, open, and interoperable systems.
> Our achievements drive to wider implication
From the evolution of the SSCP communication protocol to the extensive work carried out around Standard #16 of the Cyber Resilience Act – not to mention all the content produced over the past year – we have built strong momentum that inspires numerous security stakeholders across Europe to join us and take action for our sovereignty.
> Let’s stand for the Baltics
The Baltics are our physical frontline. While many countries raise awareness about phishing, people here are trained to identify spies and even take part in large-scale evacuation drills involving up to 500,000 participants in case of an attack.
For SPAC Alliance, security is a right. This is not a punchline. It’s the foundation of our work and the first value we share with our members. Be sure, we will support the Baltic countries as they truly deserve.
Outro
Finally, we would like to warmly thank Maris Baltgergs and Sanita Meijere from ALTAS for both their warm welcome and their outstanding professionalism in organizing such a high-quality event.
From the speakers (including Edgars Kuzmans) and audience to the organization and technical setup – everything was perfect!
We look forward to seeing you again very soon!
